On October 31, 2024, the Society for the Analysis of Government and Economics (SAGE) hosted an online lecture entitled "Development Planning and Macroeconomic Regulation for Late-Developing Countries: An Analysis from the Perspective of Government and Economics." This lecture was presented by Liu Peilin, Senior Researcher at Tsinghua University's Academic Center for Chinese Economic Practice and Thinking (ACCEPT). The webinar represented the thirteenth installment in SAGE's Lectures in Government and Economics Series.

Speaker Bio:


Liu Peilin holds a Ph.D. in economics from Peking University. He served as deputy director, level I bureau rank official and researcher of the Development Strategy and Regional Economic Research Department of the Development Research Center of the State Council. He is a chief expert for the Center for Regional Coordinated Development Research Center at Zhejiang University, a national first-grade think tank, in addition to taking on the roles of Qiushi Think Tank Fellow research scholar, the deputy director of the Institute for Common Prosperity and Development at Zhejiang University, and the co-director of the Yangtze River Delta Integration Development Research Center at Jiaxing University. He has presided over major national-level research projects for philosophy and social sciences, general research projects for the National Natural Science Foundation of China, as well as other research projects, in addition to coordinating a number of major projects for the Development Research Center of the State Council.


Dr. Liu has published the monograph "Development Strategy and Sources of Growth: A Study of China's Experience" (2003). He twice served as a key member participating in the research undertaken for major joint reports produced by the Development Research Center of the State Council and the World Bank: "China 2030: Building a Modern, Harmonious and Creative High Income Society" (2012) and "Inclusive Urbanization and Rural-Urban Integration: Lessons from China" (2015). Dr. Liu has published a large volume of academic papers and articles in academic journals such as "Social Sciences in China," "Economic Research Journal," "Journal of Management World," "China Economic Quarterly," and "China Industrial Economics," as was as in newspapers and periodicals such as the "People's Daily" and "Economic Daily." In addition to participating in the drafting of relevant meeting documents for China's central government on multiple occasions, he has written many policy research reports on themes ranging from economic growth, macroeconomics, comprehensive human development and common prosperity.
